Tomkins v Stones
Everton have rejected a 26M bid from Chelsea for Stones.

With this in mind how much do you think Tomkins is worth?

"if you want to buy James Tomkins from us you have to pay more then you would of had to of paid Hull for James Chester"

would OF? Know I *now* that doesn't make sense!

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Tomkins has to improve his game on the floor and with the ball at his feet. He has the chance to do that now. He has developed the strength in the air and on the ground from a defensive standpoint but to be international standard its what he can do with the ball (or not) where he is inferior Stones currently IMHO.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
I dont think we can compare tomkins to the likes of stones on the money basis. Mainly because stones has massive potential. He could be and probably will be Englands next centre back. If your going to compare money between players and try to find out how much tomkins would be worth you'd ha e to compare tomkins with james chester who apparently is moving for £8 million.

If your going to compare them then I'd put tomkins in the 10-13 mill bracket. Thats what he would be worth to us but not many teams would pay that. Bewildering at the prices being thrown about on bang average players really.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Yes, and I'm certain if you said Tomkins was worth £10-15 million at Boozers around the 19 other premiership clubs, they'd all welcome you with open arms, all baffled over the fact a bit part players for several years at a mid table side, has found it hard to attract top clubs and England call ups....

Re: Tomkins v Stones
I'd love to see one of these spouting off in the boozer later Tomkins is worthless than £5m

Be laughed out the gaff and with that, I'm off down the Stanley

He is worth that as James Chester went for £8 million yesterday

James Tomkins is better then James Chester

Therefore if you want to buy James Tomkins from us you have to pay more then you would of had to of paid relegated Hull for James Chester

I'd agree, but I think if Tomkins had 3 seasons playing alongside Terry it would push him on even further.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
So, to summarise this. Despite nobody in football going in for Tomkins around 10-15 million ever, no England managers picking him even as backup in a 30 man squad for years, and the fact he's not even guaranteed a place at West Ham who finished 12th and lower in the last two seasons, he is actually worth it that fee, because of a list of on the spot variables created by the fans of his club on here.

Genuine question for people; who do you think is better -

Tomkins OR Cahill?

Someone is actually using overseas player prices as a guide.....

Brilliant

Still he's also using the old England chestnut as well as if Woy not picking him is some sort of factor.

I find it baffling, I really do that West Ham fans don't rate Tomkins even on par with Chester.

Rossal 3:24 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
He is English so you add £5 million simple as

You are forgetting both the players mentioned below the club were happy to let leave. We do not want Tomkins to leave so again the price rises

3:21 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
Sorry, that was to Rossal. Probably a fairer comparison than Downing due to his age and position.

Re: Tomkins v Stones
We've just bought a guy from Champions League finalist, with title honours, international caps, around the same age for what could be £10 million right?

Alderweireld, 40+ caps for Belgium, Titles in Holland, Titles in spain, champions league runners up, superb for Southampton who finished right up there, goes to Tottenham for £11million.

Going by the European market valuation here, how many sides in Europe does anyone think is going to in for a bid £10-15 million for Tomkins based on that?

So Tomkins entering his prime is worth less than a guy who is 31 and coming to the end

baffling

Re: Tomkins v Stones
Lewis Dunk is good player any Brighton fan will tell you that. He's tall but quick, it's just his attitude like Tomkins that lets him down.

3:13 Thu Jul 30
Re: Tomkins v Stones
Well you are just reinforcing the point there. Brighton valued him at £5million. The rest of the premiership didn't.

A bit like slapping 10-15million on Tomkins. Nobody will buy him for that. Nobody has. He's not even got a call for an England call up.
